Trade Fair Giveaways That Don't End Up in the Bin

On the evening after the first day of a trade fair, many hotel rooms look the same: a tote bag full of pens, jelly sweets, flyers and a stress ball. Most of it stays in the hotel or goes straight in the bin back home. Yet trade fair giveaways are meant to do the opposite: remind people of your stand, open a conversation and, ideally, turn up weeks later on a desk or in a bathroom. Here's why so many giveaways get lost, how to plan better, and which ideas, including a very small bottle cap, people actually take home.

Why so many trade fair giveaways end up in the bin

  • No link to your company: the twentieth pen of the day reminds nobody of anything.
  • Too big and too heavy: many visitors travel light. If it doesn't fit in a jacket pocket, it gets left behind.
  • The same for everyone: hand something to every passer-by and you give away a lot while staying in very few heads.
  • Nothing to talk about: a good giveaway gives people a reason to stop and ask.

Two tiers instead of a scattergun

Many exhibitors do well with a simple rule: a small giveaway for everyone who stops, and a proper gift for the contacts you had a good conversation with. The small giveaway can be inexpensive, but it should suit you. The bigger gift doesn't have to be handed over at the fair. Sending it a few days later is often better: it arrives once the bustle is over and gives you a reason to get back in touch.

Trade fair giveaway ideas people take with them

  • Something for the fair itself: a small bottle of water, a cereal bar, plasters for tired feet or a charging cable. All of it gets used straight away.
  • Something local: a piece of chocolate or a small bag of coffee from your city, with a short story about where you're based.
  • Tools that suit your sector: a folding rule for trade customers, a cable tie set for tech fans, a seed packet for garden businesses.
  • A logo bottle cap: small, light, and it raises a question. More on that below.

Logo bottle caps as a mini giveaway

A bottle cap with your logo weighs next to nothing and fits in any pocket. At the stand it prompts exactly the question you want: "What do you do with it?" The answer hangs on the wall a little further along. With the Soapi, a bottle cap is pressed halfway into a bar of soap, the soap hangs from the magnet and dries all the way round instead of going soft in a dish. Show it at your stand with a real bar of soap over a small basin, or simply on a smooth back wall, and you have a conversation starter that needs no sales pitch.

Here's how quantities work: we print bottle caps with your logo from 500 pieces. The number of Soapis is independent of that. So you order only as many Soapis as your team and key contacts need, and hand out the remaining caps as a giveaway at the stand, as an insert in your follow-up letter or at the reception desk. More bottle cap ideas are in what to do with bottle caps, and everything on branding is in promotional gifts with a logo.

A Soapi for your key contacts

For the second tier, the gift after a good conversation, a Soapi with a logo cap in the soap works well. The cap sits visibly, so your logo is on show every day in the bathroom or by the kitchen sink. Here's why it suits:

  • Stays in use: everyone has a basin, so the Soapi doesn't end up in a drawer.
  • Easy to post: small and flat, ideal for sending after the fair.
  • Made in Berlin: the Soapi is injection-moulded in Berlin. The housing is injection-moulded from recycled plastic, around 90 % of which comes from discarded fishing nets and ropes.
  • Built to stay in use: a 10-year durability guarantee.
  • In your colours: 10 colours, mixed or matched to your brand.

More than 250 retailers worldwide stock Soapi, and for promotional product distributors: Soapi is listed in the PSI Product Finder. How company enquiries work is explained on our corporate gifts page. As a company, you buy from us at the retailer price: very good terms that normally only go to retailers who order from us regularly. Printing logo caps takes about two weeks from order to dispatch, often much less. For logo bottle caps it's best to ask early, so there's enough time for printing before the fair.

FAQ

How many giveaways do you need for a trade fair?

That depends on the fair, the size of your stand and your goals. A rule of thumb from practice: hand out fewer, more selectively, and plan a better gift for your key contacts.

Do I need 500 Soapis if I order 500 logo bottle caps?

No. We print the caps from 500 pieces, and you choose the number of Soapis freely. The remaining caps work as mini giveaways or for later orders.

Which is better: a giveaway at the stand or a gift by post?

Both have their place. At the stand, a small giveaway opens the conversation; by post, a gift after the fair reminds people of exactly that conversation.

In short

Good trade fair giveaways are small, suit your company and give people a reason to talk. With logo bottle caps for everyone and a Soapi for your key contacts, both tiers are covered. Send us an enquiry with quantity, colours and the date of your fair, or put together five items with Mix & Match for a smaller appearance.
