Client Gifts: What Lands, What Annoys and What Suits Christmas
Good client gifts say thank you for working together and stay in people's minds. Bad ones end up in the recycling bin in January or in the drawer with all the other pens. Here is what lands well with clients and business partners, what tends to annoy, when to send, and what the German 50-euro limit is about.
What makes client gifts land well
- It gets used. The best gift is one that still turns up in daily life weeks later. On the desk, in the kitchen, in the bathroom.
- It suits everyone. You rarely know your contacts' tastes in detail. Go for something that works without that knowledge.
- It has a story. Something you can explain in one sentence and people talk about sticks.
- It comes with a few personal lines. A handwritten card with one specific sentence about the year together often means more than the gift itself.
- The logo is discreet. Small and in a sensible place, it reads like a greeting. Big and loud, it reads like advertising.
What tends to annoy
- The tenth pen, the fifth mug, the USB stick nobody needs any more.
- Perishables that arrive just before the holidays, when the office is already empty.
- Alcohol as the default. Many people do not drink, and in some companies it is a sensitive topic anyway.
- A gift with a sales brochure tucked inside. Then it is not a gift any more, it is a mailing campaign.

Gifts for clients: ideas that work
- Something local: coffee from a roaster in your town, honey or spices from the region. It says something about you.
- A small everyday helper that gets used daily and does not look like promotional merchandise. More on that below.
Client Christmas gifts: watch the timing
In December lots of parcels arrive at once, and in the last week before the holidays many offices are empty. Plan early so the gift arrives in early or mid December.

Gifts to business partners: the 50-euro limit in brief
In Germany, gifts to people who are not your employees can only be deducted as a business expense under section 4(5) sentence 1 no. 1 of the Income Tax Act (EStG) if the cost per recipient and financial year does not exceed 50 euros in total. The limit has been 50 euros since 2024, before that it was 35 euros. If you can reclaim input VAT, the net amount counts. Several gifts to the same person in a year are added together. If the limit is exceeded, the deduction is lost for the entire gift.
A gift can also matter for tax purposes on the recipient's side. So your clients do not have to deal with it, you can take over the tax at a flat rate of 30 % under section 37b EStG, plus solidarity surcharge and church tax where applicable. A Soapi is well below the 50-euro limit. For gifts to your own team, read Tax-free employee gifts.
This is not tax advice. Please check your situation with your tax adviser.
The Soapi as a client gift
The Soapi is a magnetic soap holder. You press a bottle cap halfway into a bar of soap, the soap hangs from the magnet on the wall and dries all the way round instead of going soft in a dish. The basin stays clean. It sticks to tiles, glass or stainless steel without drilling.
- Stays in use: it hangs in the bathroom or by the sink every day instead of sitting in a drawer.
- Suits everyone: everyone has a basin.
- Easy to post: a small parcel, nothing breaks.
- Built to last: 10-year durability guarantee.
- Made in Berlin: the Soapi is injection-moulded in Berlin. The housing is injection-moulded from recycled plastic, around 90 % of which comes from discarded fishing nets and ropes.
- Proven: more than 250 retailers worldwide stock Soapi, and Soapi is listed in the PSI Product Finder.
With your logo, the gift becomes a daily greeting: we print bottle caps with your company logo from 500 pieces. The cap sits visibly in the soap, so your logo is seen every day in the bathroom or by the kitchen sink. You do not have to take 500 Soapis for that. Order Soapis for your key clients, for example, and use the remaining logo caps as a small letter insert or for later orders. The 10 colours can be mixed or matched to your brand colour. As a company, you buy from us at the retailer price: very good terms that normally only go to retailers who order from us regularly. Printing logo caps takes about two weeks from order to dispatch, often much less. Send your client gift enquiry here. For Christmas: with logo caps, it is better to ask early so there is enough time for printing.

FAQ
How much should you spend on client gifts?
There is no fixed rule. Many companies in Germany orient themselves by the 50-euro limit for business gifts and care more about the personal card than the price.
Can I order logo gifts without taking lots of Soapis?
Yes. Logo caps start at 500 pieces, and you choose the number of Soapis freely. How it works is explained in Promotional gifts with a logo that get used.
