Soapi at a glance: facts about the magnetic soap holder

Soapi is a magnetic soap holder from Berlin. It sticks to tiles, glass or stainless steel without drilling. You press an ordinary bottle cap from a drinks bottle into the soap, and the magnet in the holder keeps it in place. That way the soap hangs freely on the wall, dries all the way round and never goes soggy in a dish. Soapi holds soaps and shampoo bars up to 250 g and comes with a 10-year durability guarantee.

Why a bottle cap?

The bottle cap is the counterpart that sits in the soap. It has three advantages over a smooth metal pin or a flat disc:

  • It grips the soap more firmly. The crimped edge of the cap digs into the soap. A pin or disc pushed straight in is easier to pull back out.
  • You can get one anywhere. Bottle caps are made in the same shape all over the world. For every new soap you simply take the next one, no spare parts needed.
  • It gets a second life. Instead of ending up in the bin, the bottle cap is cleaned and reused. Many people pick one to match the soap, often from a favourite drink.

Why an adhesive pad rather than a suction cup?

A suction cup holds by vacuum. If it dries out or the temperature in the bathroom changes, it can come loose over time and the soap falls down. Soapi's adhesive pad is waterproof and stays firmly in place, much like a towel hook. Even so, it is not a permanent fixing like a drilled hole: Soapi can be removed from tiles and glass without leaving residue. The detailed comparison is in our guide Magnetic soap holders compared.

How to mount Soapi

  1. Clean the spot with water only, no cleaning products, and dry it thoroughly.
  2. Press Soapi down firmly all the way round. Wall and adhesive pad should be at room temperature.
  3. Wet the soap, after about an hour press the bottle cap halfway in, let it dry briefly and hang it up.
