Bathroom Trends 2026: Warm, Calm and Clutter-Free

If you're renovating your bathroom or just fancy a change, you've probably searched for bathroom trends 2026 and found mostly glossy photos of bathrooms that cost as much as a small car. Yet most of these trends work in a rented flat too, with lighting, textiles and a few clever details. Here's what keeps turning up in new bathrooms, showrooms and interiors magazines right now, and which parts you can do without calling a tradesperson.

1. The bathroom as a retreat

For a lot of people the bathroom is no longer just where you brush your teeth. It's set up as a place you actually want to stay: dimmed light, a stool, somewhere for a candle and a book, proper towels. Home spa is a big theme at the moment. For a step-by-step spa evening at home, see our article Home spa ideas.

No renovation needed: a warm white bulb instead of harsh light, a wooden stool by the shower, two large, heavy towels in a calm colour.

2. Warm colours instead of clinical white

All-white bathrooms now feel too cold to many people. You see more sand, terracotta, olive, warm grey and muted green, on tiles, walls and textiles. Small, elongated tiles with a handmade look and coloured grout are popping up everywhere too.

No renovation needed: towels, bath mat and shower curtain in a warm tone already go a long way. If you're allowed to paint, pick a wall outside the splash zone and use paint suitable for damp rooms.

3. Natural materials and textured surfaces

Wood, stone, linen, ceramics with a visible glaze, fluted glass, lime plaster or microcement: surfaces are allowed to have character again. Stone basins and wooden vanity units appear in many new bathrooms, paired with taps in matt black or brushed brass.

No renovation needed: a wooden or stone tray for the three things that really need to live by the sink, a linen towel, a woven laundry basket.

4. Clear surfaces: fewer bottles, more calm

Perhaps the most important trend isn't a material but an attitude: fewer things on the basin and the edge of the bath. Open shelves are styled on purpose and everything else goes into a cupboard. A bathroom looks calmer straight away when there aren't twelve half-empty bottles lined up in the shower.

Many people are switching to bar soap and solid shampoo for exactly this reason. One bar replaces the pump bottle at the sink, another replaces the shampoo bottle in the shower. Bar soap needs no plastic bottle and simply looks good unwrapped. You'll find a selection in our soaps and shampoos. The age-old problem: the bar sits in a dish or on the edge of the bath in a puddle and turns to mush.

5. On the wall, not on the basin, without drilling

Whatever shouldn't sit on a surface goes on the wall. At the same time, lots of people rent and don't want to drill holes in the tiles. That's why you see more and more hooks, holders and shelves that stick on rather than screw in.

This is exactly what the Soapi is for. You press a bottle cap halfway into a bar of soap, the soap hangs from a magnet on the wall and dries all the way round. Basin and bath edge stay clear and clean. The Soapi sticks with a waterproof adhesive pad to tiles, glass, mirrors or stainless steel and comes off tiles and glass without leaving residue. It comes in ten colours, from cream white and grey to teal, mint and peach, so it suits warm and cool bathrooms alike. It costs €12.95 and is still new to many people, even though it has been sold in more than 250 shops since 2023. Why a hanging bar lasts longer than one in a dish is explained in our guide Soap dish or magnetic soap holder.

6. Cosy, the Scandinavian way

Warm light, pale wood, soft textiles and a few beautiful things: Scandinavian style fits neatly with all the trends above. How to make your bathroom cosy in hygge style is covered in detail in our article Hygge in the bathroom.

Bathroom trends 2026 on a small scale: Mix & Match

If you want to tackle several spots at once, say the basin, the shower and the guest loo, Mix & Match lets you pick 5 products, pay €50 and get free delivery within Germany. For example three Soapis in colours that match your tiles, a Marseille soap and a Skargard solid shampoo. Or two Soapis plus the magnetic key holder for the hallway, so the shelf there stays clear too.

FAQ

Which bathroom colours are popular in 2026?

You'll see a lot of warm, earthy tones: sand, terracotta, olive, warm grey. White is still popular but is often combined with wood and warm light so it doesn't feel sterile.

Can I follow these trends in a rented flat?

Mostly, yes: through lighting, textiles, accessories and things that stick on instead of being drilled in. You can stick a Soapi to smooth tiles, for instance, but not to painted or wallpapered walls.

Does a hanging bar of soap really last longer?

Soap that can dry all the way round between uses doesn't go soft or mushy. That's why it usually lasts longer than one sitting in a dish with water in it.

In short

The bathroom trends for 2026 boil down to one thing: a bathroom you enjoy being in. Warm colours, real materials, clear surfaces. Much of it works without a tradesperson or a drill. Start with the basin and put together your Mix & Match set.
